The South Metro Atlanta team, formed in January of 2009, began with five triathletes who were willing to do whatever it takes to make God’s name famous. Since then, the South Metro Atlanta team has witnessed God move in Georgia through the formation of the Savanna and North Metro Atlanta huddles. The South Metro Atlanta huddle has also grown to approximately 20 members.
South Metro Atlanta teammates see it as their mission not simply to race, but also to give back to the community through volunteering. Since the beginning of the 2009 season, the huddle has raced in nearly 20 races and volunteered at 12 events. Through partnering with the Tri the Park series, South Metro Atlanta is able to race, volunteer and set up a tent for racers to hang out before and after events. This allows the huddle to reach around 500 triathletes at six different times throughout race season and spread the love of Christ to them all!
The huddle has also teamed up with the local FCA director to help host Georgia’s first ever FCA 5k road race in November. Proceeds from the event will go to the local FCA office, helping the organization reach high school and middle school students in the community.
Aside from volunteering at local events, the South Metro Atlanta huddle hosts a group ride every Monday and Wednesday evening, giving huddle members at least two opportunities to influence the world of endurance sports for Christ every week!
Huddle leader Mike Roby believes the team has a lot of potential for the future: “We continue to see our team as a work in progress,” Roby said, “but know that if we continue to look for God’s direction, we will continue to see amazing things.”
